A Legacy of Hands, A Vision for the World: The Story of Craffiti Cottage
Craffiti Cottage began from two very different paths that eventually came together through a shared purpose. One path belonged to Nemi Chand Prajapat, a member of a long line of potters whose family had shaped clay for generations. In his village, pottery was not an industry but a heritage. It was work guided by instinct, patience and tradition, carried forward from parent to child without written manuals or formal training. His days revolved around the rhythm of the wheel, the warmth of the kiln and the quiet confidence of a craft perfected over time.
The other path belonged to Sapan Chakravorty, a visionary who believed that Indian handicraft deserved recognition on a global scale. Through his exposure to design, sourcing and international trade, he understood what global buyers sought. He had a clear sense of how handmade products could be elevated through structure, quality systems, compliance, consistency and transparent communication. Most importantly, he saw the untapped potential in crafts like terracotta and papier-mâché which were rich in tradition but limited by lack of access to global markets.
When Nemi Chand Prajapat and Sapan Chakravorty met, they discovered a perfect alignment. One brought generational artistry and cultural depth. The other brought professional expertise and the ability to build global connections. Together, they formed the foundation of Craffiti Cottage.
Their collaboration was not simply the meeting of two individuals. It was the merging of heritage and ambition. The authenticity of traditional craft met the discipline of export standards. Hand skills that had been passed down through families found the opportunity to reach international shelves. A small local craft began its journey toward becoming a world-recognized product category.
From this partnership, Craffiti Cottage grew into a SEDEX SMETA audited Star Export House that preserves the essence of Indian craftsmanship while delivering products of consistent, export-ready quality. What began with a modest production setup has expanded into a trusted sourcing partner that exports 100 percent handmade terracotta and papier-mâché products to more than 19 countries and serves 51 global buyers.
Through this journey, the company has remained committed to its origins. Every product carries the story of artisans like Nemi Chand Prajapat whose hands shape raw clay into meaningful forms. Every shipment reflects the vision of leaders like Sapan Chakravorty who work to bring these crafts to the world without compromising their authenticity.
Today, Craffiti Cottage stands as a bridge between India’s timeless craftsmanship and the growing global demand for handmade products. The company continues to empower artisans, preserve tradition and build lasting partnerships through integrity, skill and the belief that handmade craft will always have a place in the world.
